Step 3: Play to Your Strengths. Cover Your Weak Spots
Posted on Mar 25, 2026
Most people don’t have a talent problem.
They have a focus problem.
They’re trying to improve everything at once…
and end up not maximizing what actually makes them effective.
At some point, you realize:
You can’t be great at everything.
But you can be great at the right things.
This is Step 3 of my Beat the Coverage framework
Once you understand the field and recognize the opportunities,
this is where it becomes personal.
Now it’s about how you show up.
How you prepare.
How you execute.
And how well you understand yourself.
Lean into what works
Your strengths are not random.
They’re the things that consistently produce results.
The way you communicate.
The way you build relationships.
The way you solve problems.
Too often, people overlook these because they come naturally.
But those are your advantages.
The more you use them with intention,
the more consistent your results become.
Don’t ignore what can cost you
At the same time, your weak spots matter.
Not because they define you…
but because they can disrupt everything you’re building.
It’s usually not the big things.
It’s the small gaps:
- Following up late
- Not being prepared
- Letting consistency slip
Those are the things that quietly hold people back.
A better way to approach it
You don’t need to fix everything.
You need to be aware and be intentional.
Use your strengths on purpose.
And put structure around your weak spots.
That might mean building better habits.
It might mean creating systems.
Or it might mean getting support where you need it.
Final thought
Success isn’t about being well-rounded.
It’s about being aligned.
Knowing what you do best.
Using it consistently.
And not letting small weaknesses turn into big problems.
Call to Action
Take a few minutes today and think about this:
Where do you naturally get your best results?
And where do things tend to break down?
Focus on one of each this week.
That’s where progress starts.
